Exam Preparation and Pre-Testing

To start preparation, you can review the domain content and sample exam questions in The CDMS Guide for Candidate Certification (pdf). The CDMS Commission Examination & Research Committee has recently updated a reading list of suggested resources to help examination candidates.

The CDMS Commission does not endorse any particular study materials or preparation courses. However in response to increased need for educational resources, the Commission has developed the CDMS Core Knowledge Curriculum – a unique online learning program within the disability management field. For the first time, you can access comprehensive knowledge, skills, interactive exercises, and case study examples all in one place. This curriculum is not necessarily intended as an exam preparation course but could be used in this manner.

CDMS Core Knowledge Curriculum

The Commission is proud to offer the CDMS Core Knowledge Curriculum – a unique online learning program for those in the field of disability management or those who may be charged with administering programs related to disability or leave of absence. This comprehensive educational resource was designed around the job analysis study conducted by the CDMS Commission in 2009 and published as the Role & Function Study.

Current CDMS certificants and curriculum-enrolled students can earn up to 32 CE hours when they participate in the full-curriculum learning program. Each domain module qualifies for eight CE hours. Newcomers to the field can use the curriculum to supplement their preparation for the CDMS exam or use the curriculum as an interim step toward further education and designation by achieving a minimum cumulative score of 80% on the post-tests of the curriculum.

The CDMS Core Knowledge Curriculum is organized into an introductory module and four domain modules, each reflecting an area of practice. They include:

Introductory Module: Introduction to Core Competencies

Module 1: Domain for Disability and Work Interruption Case Management

Module 2: Domain for Workplace Intervention for Disability Prevention

Module 3: Domain for Program Development, Management, and Evaluation

Module 4: Domain for Employment Leaves and Benefits Administration

CDMS Core Knowledge Curriculum pricing is based on 120 day access to the online learning system. Those interested in purchasing the CDMS Core Knowledge Curriculum should submit a CDMS Core Knowledge Curriculum Application (pdf) to the CDMS Administrative Office, by following the instructions on the form.
