Today, the evolution of integrated disability and absence management continues with a wider array of demands placed on practitioners and increased professional diversity. Both of these factors underscore the importance of training and education.
As the gap in disability management learning resources was identified, the CDMS Commission began investigating the possibility of offering a curriculum for current and prospective practitioners. That process led to the development of the CDMS Core Knowledge Curriculum (CKC) – the first comprehensive educational resource focused solely on disability management and leaves of absence in the workplace.
Core Knowledge Program to Expand
The Commission believes that ongoing education is a valuable component of professional
development. As roles change and expand, and new skills are required of both traditional and
nontraditional professionals, new learning and continuing education will be essential.
For this reason, the CDMS Core Knowledge Committee is planning to introduce more core knowledge programs in 2012. In the works are webinars and other online avenues for knowledge sharing. This is just one more way that the Commission intends to deliver practical, case-based learning – thereby bridging the gap between education and experience in a continually evolving field.
